Decor to die for!

Our latest project took place in Moorebank, located in Sydney’s growing south-west right by Liverpool, Milperra and Cabramatta, where our client wanted to transform a spare room into a luxurious and atmospheric home theatre. The brief was to create an authentic cinema experience within the home—complete with dark, immersive décor, superior sound, and exceptional picture quality. With a clear focus on home theatre décor that enhanced the overall ambience, the goal was not only high performance but also a space that felt like stepping into a true cinema.

To achieve this level of immersion, our design and installation team carefully selected a combination of décor and technology that worked harmoniously together. The use of dark paintwork and carpeting, combined with black fibreglass acoustic panels, set the visual tone for the room—reducing light reflections and creating the deep, cinematic atmosphere the client envisioned. A starlight ceiling was installed to elevate the aesthetic further, providing a subtle sparkle reminiscent of the night sky during a movie screening.

For comfort and style, we incorporated Manhattan Hudson seating, upholstered in premium leather, offering both luxury and functionality with built-in electronic recliners and tactile Dayton 300W bass shakers for an immersive sensory experience. The room’s dark window furnishings completed the look while helping to block external light for optimal viewing conditions.

From an audio-visual standpoint, we equipped the theatre with a BenQ W2720i 4K LED projector paired with a 120” ScreenPro fixed acoustic projector screen for crisp, vibrant visuals. The surround sound system featured KEF Ci4100QL THX in-wall speakers, KEF Ci160.2CL in-wall, and KEF Ci160.2CR in-ceiling speakers, powered by a Denon AVRX2800H AV Receiver and supported by a Proficient 12” subwoofer—delivering balanced, cinematic-grade sound that filled the space perfectly.

The client’s vision was clear: to have a dedicated home theatre space that offered the look and feel of a commercial cinema while blending seamlessly into their home. To meet this brief, our focus was on both technical performance and décor synergy. The nightsky black paintwork, dark carpeting, and starlight ceiling worked together to absorb stray light and build an atmosphere of depth and warmth—key elements in achieving that true cinema ambiance. The black acoustic panels not only added a striking visual feature but also enhanced the room’s sound quality by reducing echo and maintaining clarity. Every décor choice was purposeful, contributing to a fully immersive entertainment environment.

While this project focused on dark and moody tones to replicate a traditional cinema, there are many ways to style a home theatre. For those who prefer a more contemporary look, lighter tones can be combined with LED strip lighting, modern wall finishes, and minimalist furnishings for a sleek, open feel.
